The La Croisette Magazine: The Global Boost Awards Arrive at Cannes: Inside the Inaugural MMXXVI Edition

Coinciding with the Cannes Film Festival, the movement created by Sonia Boost — CEO of The Wonder World Group — launches its inaugural edition on the French Riviera.

Every May, the Croisette becomes the centre of the global film industry. Producers, filmmakers, distributors and international media gather in Cannes as the world’s attention turns toward cinema, culture and entertainment.

This year, alongside the energy of the Cannes Film Festival, a new initiative is entering the conversation: the Global Boost Awards.

The movement will officially debut in May 2026 with its first edition on the French Riviera, positioning itself as a new editorial and cultural platform operating within the wider Cannes ecosystem.

An Independent Movement Within the Cannes Atmosphere

The launch has been intentionally scheduled during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, taking advantage of the international concentration of cinema professionals, global brands and media attention already present in Cannes each year.

However, the organisation has clearly stated that the Global Boost Awards are not officially affiliated with the Cannes Film Festival itself.

The movement was independently created by Sonia Boost — CEO of The Wonder World Group, film producer and founder of the initiative — with editorial support from La Croisette.

According to the organisers, maintaining editorial independence is one of the core principles of the project. The initiative aims to establish its legitimacy through the quality of its vision, recognitions and cultural conversations rather than through institutional affiliation.

What to Expect From the Inaugural Edition

While the full programme, guest list and final categories are still being revealed, several details about the first edition have already emerged.

Rather than functioning as a traditional evening awards gala, the event is being designed as a full-day cultural gathering focused on conversation, cinema and creative exchange.

The programme is expected to include:

  • Curated screenings
  • Public conversations with international cinema and culture figures
  • Private industry meetings
  • Editorial discussions
  • The official awards presentation

The recognitions themselves will focus on the movement’s three core territories:

Cinema

Celebrating international film, storytelling and creative vision.

AI & Storytelling

Recognising innovative uses of artificial intelligence within narrative and cinematic creation.

Brands With Purpose

Highlighting brands that actively contribute to culture through storytelling, creativity and meaningful impact.

Each territory will have its own curatorial committee, with organisers reportedly prioritising diverse and cross-disciplinary voices rather than traditional jury structures.

A Different Kind of Press Conference

One of the most anticipated moments surrounding the launch is the international press conference accompanying the movement’s debut.

According to the organisers, the format will differ significantly from conventional corporate presentations. Instead of focusing on promotional messaging, the event is intended to function as an open editorial conversation between the Global Boost Awards team and international press covering cinema, culture, brands and technology.

This reflects one of the movement’s core beliefs: that the creative industries need deeper cultural dialogue rather than purely corporate communication.

Recognition Beyond Competition

The organisation has also clarified that the Global Boost Awards are not designed as a competitive alternative to existing film festivals or academies.

Rather than awarding films against one another, the movement aims to recognise broader cultural impact — including filmmakers, creators, production companies, brands and projects influencing contemporary culture in meaningful ways.

This distinction allows the initiative to operate alongside established institutions while focusing on a different kind of recognition built around influence, storytelling and human impact.

The Growing Role of Purpose-Driven Brands

One of the most discussed aspects ahead of the launch is the importance given to purpose-driven brands within the movement.

Unlike traditional ceremonies where brands primarily appear as sponsors, the Global Boost Awards place certain brands alongside filmmakers and creators as cultural contributors in their own right.

The initiative plans to honour companies that use storytelling, cinematic language and innovation to shape culture beyond traditional advertising models.

According to early reports, the inaugural edition is expected to feature both established luxury names and emerging brands working at the intersection of AI, cinema and creative culture.

Looking Beyond Cannes

Although the immediate focus remains on Cannes 2026, the movement is already planning future international editions.

Upcoming expansions are expected to include Berlin and Los Angeles, allowing the Global Boost Awards to establish a long-term presence across major global cinema capitals while adapting each edition to the cultural identity of its location.

The Cannes edition is therefore being positioned not as a standalone event, but as the beginning of a broader international movement.

Why the Industry Is Paying Attention

For many observers within cinema and culture circles, the Global Boost Awards represent more than another date on the international calendar.

The initiative reflects a larger conversation about how storytelling, artificial intelligence, brands and cultural influence are evolving together in the modern creative industry.

If the inaugural edition delivers on its ambitions, May 2026 may be remembered as the beginning of a new kind of cultural platform — one where cinema, technology and purpose are no longer treated as separate worlds, but as part of the same conversation.

And that conversation begins on the Croisette.
